BackAware Belt: My Honest Review and Experience

When you think of a personal trainer what benefits do you think of?

For me it is:

  1. Knowing what exercises and workout to do.
  2. Making sure I am doing exercises correctly with good form.
  3. Accountability

Well, there is now a connected fitness/wearable technology that is addressing all three of these things through a novel piece of technology. It is called the BackAware Belt. I used the BackAware Belt when writing an article on Back Pilates but we think the technology deserves an examination on its own.

Quick Look at the BackAware Belt

Using BackAware belt to get a perfect form

For years equipment, such as Tonal, Peloton and Tempo have helped by giving exercise classes and using leaderboards to keep us accountable. These devices also include cameras to track the number of reps you do but they don’t truly monitor your form.

Having reviewed these pieces of equipment in the past I can say this was the first time I truly felt I was getting feedback during my exercise like if a PT was there.

Pros and Cons of the BackAware Belt:

ProsCons
Awesome if you love to know you are doing exercises correctly.  Can take a workout or two to get the hang of using the BackAware Belt.
Good selection of exercise modalitiesSubscription membership of 6 months (€39/month) to pay for the belt and classes.
Very Lightweight
No big upfront cost

Is the BackAware Belt Worth it?

As with any fitness equipment it really depends on your goals and what you are looking for. If you are the type of person who wants feedback on their workouts to know you are doing them correctly and likes exercise types, such as Pilates, Gym or hit then I think the BackAware Belt would definitely be worth the cost. For me having had on going Back Pain I thought it was brilliant! It allowed me to know when I was doing exercises correctly and gave me confidence to stay exercising.

There are really nice, guided workouts from the intense ones, such as Gym sessions, HIIT and Sports Pilates (Which surprisingly really makes your muscles burn) to the less intense Back Pilates, Yoga and Mobility options.

If you are someone who doesn’t want to this type of workout and would rather run or cycle, then I wouldn’t recommend it.
